Taylor Swift’s Physical Release of “Anthology” Returns “Tortured Poets” to the Top

“The Tortured Poets Department” has returned to the top of the albums list for the sixteenth non-consecutive week, placing Taylor Swift back at the top of the Billboard 200.

The Grammy-nominated set shot back to the top from its previous No. 8 spot after the first physical release of the album’s deluxe “Anthology” issue, even though the record was released in April.

Target was the only place to buy the four-LP and two-CD sets when they were launched on Black Friday. According to figures from Luminate, the album sold 405,000 equivalent album units in the United States during its first full week of release.

368,000 of that total came from traditional album sales, which means Swift broke her own record for the largest week overall for any album since “The Tortured Poets” sold 439,000 units in its second week (it debuted with 2.6 million units). Of the special edition’s 368,000 total sales, 191,000 were on vinyl, and 177,000 were on CD.

Juice WRLD’s posthumous single, “The Party Never Ends,” which debuted at No. 4 with 86,000 copies and 123 streams, is the only new song on the chart this week. After several delays, “The Party Never Ends” was finally released on November 29. This comes almost seven years after the artist passed away at the age of 21 from an accidental overdose in 2019.

All five of his albums—including the three that were released after his passing—started in the Billboard 200’s top five. Juice WRLD posthumously charted at the top five on the Billboard 200 with “Legends Never Die” in 2020 and “Fighting Demons” in 2021 prior to “The Party Never Ends.”

Festive albums are making their way up the charts as the holidays draw near. “Christmas” by Michael Bublé is at number seven with 56,000 units, and “Ultimate Christmas” by Bing Crosby is at number nine with 50,000 units. In other news, Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX,” which has sold 165,000 units in its second week, drops to No. 2 on the Billboard 200. “The Wicked movie” climbs to number three; “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter is at number five; “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish is at number eight; “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” by Chappell Roan is at number eight; and “Chromakopia” by Tyler, the Creator completes the top at number 10.
