CBS has announced that stand-up comedian Taylor Tomlinson will host “After Midnight,” a new late-night show that will replace “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”
The time slot for “After Midnight” is 12:37 am ET, which was last occupied by James Corden and “The Late Late Show,” which ended in April.
With Tomlinson’s arrival, she will become the sole female host of a late-night network TV show, following Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers of NBC, and Jimmy Kimmel of ABC.
For the announcement, the 29-year-old appeared with Colbert on his show on Wednesday night.
“I’ve never had a real job … I’ve been doing stand-up since I was 16, which is not a job,” she joked.
The comedian is now winding up her “Have It All” tour, which includes stops in Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia. She also has two Netflix specials available.
Colbert, who will executive produce the new programme, stated, “We’ll need someone who is, I don’t know, fun, likeable, young, in touch with online trends and available every night of the week,” just prior to revealing Tomlinson as the host.
Colbert revealed that he informed Tomlinson that she had been hired over the phone following his show on Tuesday night.
“I’m 29 so if you don’t know who I am, don’t worry. I barely know myself,” Tomlinson said.
Colbert said, “Happy birthday, I got you a network show,” after she revealed that Saturday is her thirty-first birthday.
“After Midnight” will debut in early 2024, according to a press release from CBS.
The Comedy Central late-night series “@midnight with Chris Hardwick,” which ended its four-year run in 2017, served as the model for the programme, according to the network.
