Since the league’s beginning, numerous NBA teams have worn a variety of classic jersey designs. The Golden State Warriors are one such team that immediately springs to mind. The Western Conference team has worn many jerseys to honour its most memorable events, much as the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.
Of course, given their dominance during the 2010s, many people may only be familiar with their current jerseys. There are several jerseys that made their mark and became iconic parts of the squad, though, thanks to the franchise’s rich history.
Here are the Warriors’ five greatest jerseys throughout their long and proud career.
Run TMC
Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullins only teamed up for two seasons, but their influence on the Warriors extended beyond the court. The trio of players known as Run TMC for Golden State was among the first teams to successfully use a fast-paced offence to completely dominate their opponents.
The Warriors’ appearance on the court evolved with a new identity in the Bay. The Dubs’ jerseys from 1984 to 1989 featured a white, blue, and yellow colour scheme. The outcome is simple but startling, and it goes wonderfully with Golden State’s favoured trio at the moment.
When they defeated the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs as the eighth-seed in the 1991 playoffs, Run TMC and the Warriors’ uniform may have achieved their most famous moment. That win not only confirmed this team’s incarnation, but also the eye-catching jersey design.
The Wilt Chamberlain era
During the early 1960s, the team went by the name of the San Francisco Warriors before becoming known as Run TMC, the Splash Brothers, Rick Barry’s championship team, and the We Believe team. Wilt Chamberlain, one of the most dominant players in NBA history, was in charge at this time, making all the decisions in the Bay.
The great big man averaged a stunning 41.5 points, 25.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists throughout his six and a half seasons with the Warriors. It’s also undeniable that his performance during this time was excellent, even though he didn’t help his team win any titles.
Because of this, the Warriors’ signature blue and yellow uniform, which prominently features San Francisco, has become associated with Chamberlain’s tenure with the team. This justifies the jersey’s higher status as a must-have for true Warriors fans.
The first championship
Despite the fact that Chamberlain’s time with the Warriors did not result in an NBA title, Rick Barry would come along to make up for it.
Barry made an immediate impact after joining the squad during the 1973–74 season, taking over the offence and bringing the team back into the public spotlight after Chamberlain left. The Warriors won a championship in 1975 thanks to his herculean postseason averages of 28.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 2.9 steals, thus his effort paid off in the end.
Using the same blue and yellow colour scheme as Chamberlain’s jersey from ten years prior, the Warriors’ outfit was still worn. The use of California’s outline on the jersey with the Warriors’ name on it, though, is the most noticeable change.
Due to its historical look and the franchise’s victory at the time, that particular jersey design stood out. Any fan of the Dubs will undoubtedly experience nostalgia just by wearing any jersey from this Golden State period. Add to it Barry’s legendary standing in the Bay Area and his unique free throw shooting style.
Warriors: “We Believe”
Golden State experienced a long period of mediocrity when Run TMC time, and nothing the team attempted ever really paid off. All of that changed when a group of players led by Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis, and Matt Barnes was allowed to loosen up on the court and offered fans new cause for hope.
The 2006–07 Warriors, known as the “We Believe” team, inspired the Bay Area as they managed to surprise the Dallas Mavericks, who were the top seed going into the playoffs. This enormous win ignited the entire franchise and catapulted the group to new levels of popularity.
The Warriors were shown on the team’s shirt at this time in a dark blue colour with an orange outline. The ultimate result is a look that was connected to the “We Believe” team and all the positive energy it brought.
The Dynasty
Although the Golden State Warriors’ “We Believe” era didn’t last, it wouldn’t take long for the Warriors to outperform it. With players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala on their roster, the Dubs were able to dominate the NBA and win the title in 2015.
The Warriors went on to become a dynasty after that, and Kevin Durant joined them to help them win two more rings. After some time, the Curry-Thompson-Green combination would defeat the Boston Celtics in 2022 to win their fourth championship.
Golden State’s white and yellow jersey was the most recognisable throughout the entire course of this dynasty. This iteration of the Warriors’ logo included the Golden Gate Bridge inside a circle with the team’s name around it, giving them a distinct identity on the court and contributing to their truly spectacular run.
Fans will likely see the Warriors wear new uniforms that may exceed those on this list as the team advances and enhances its jersey designs. With being said, keep an eye out because there’s an excellent chance that a new Golden State team jersey will be extremely common by then.
Another traditional jersey might be added to this list if the squad also wins another championship.
