Following the announcement of his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Weeknd will release the project’s first single, “Dancing in the Flames,” this Friday.
The Weeknd debuted the song last Saturday during his “One Night Only” performance in São Paulo, Brazil. “Dancing in the Flames” is accompanied by a music video filmed entirely on Apple’s newly announced iPhone 16 Pro. Anton Tammi directed the film alongside director of photographer Erik Henriksson.
The behind-the-scenes footage, which debuted today during Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event, shows how Tammi shot the music video on the new device and talks about its ability to record at 4K 120fps in Dolby Vision, as well as post-production capacities.
“Using iPhone 16 Pro is starting to erase the line between what’s considered a ‘professional camera’ and what’s not. And I think this is really really going to help young filmmakers coming up,” says Henrikkson. “I was very impressed with how iPhone 16 was able to pick up the strong highlights, the deep blacks, because we were shooting with very bright HDMI backlights hitting the rain and that was something I was worried about. ‘How will the iPhone pick these lights up, how will the contrast be managed, how will this look on the Weeknd’s face?’ And when I saw the results, I was blown away to be honest.”
Last week, The Weeknd dropped “Hurry Up.” “Tomorrow” is the third and final installment of his trilogy, which began with “After Hours” and continued with “Dawn FM.” On Saturday, he took to the stage at Morum BIS Stadium in São Paulo to perform new songs and welcome special guests Anitta and Playboi Carti.
As part of the concert, the singer partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme to donate funds from the show to the XO Humanitarian Fund to fight the global hunger crisis. The local equivalent of $1 from each ticket was donated to the cause.
Next month he’ll head to Australia for the final leg of his After Hours tour.
