The 75th annual Tony Awards, hosted by Ariana DeBose on Sunday, honoured the best in live theatre over the previous year by recognising the achievements of the 2021-2022 season.
RuPaul Charles and Michael Jackson’s children, Paris and Prince, took the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York City to honour the many nominated productions, including A Strange Loop, which was produced by RuPaul’s Drag Race host, and MJ, a jukebox musical about the late pop star’s life and career.
Paradise Square, Company, The Lehman Trilogy, Six, and For Colored Girls were among the other top nominees, while Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rachel Dratch, Ruth Negga, and Uzo Aduba competed for individual awards in the performance categories.
The Tony Awards: Act One, hosted by Darren Criss and Julianne Hough and broadcast live on Paramount+, kicked off the night with an hour of special footage. The celebrations continued on CBS with the live presentation of the Tony Awards for 2022.
Of course, as with every year, the ceremony was full of shocks and unexpected moments, with Angela Lansbury among the night’s most famous honorees.
