It’s that time of the year when we make New Year’s resolutions that can bring greater peace of mind and overall happiness. In simple terms, we want to change our lifestyle and habits to live a better life. But if I may say so myself, resolutions are just as easily misused as anything else. We’ve all made New Year’s resolutions before and failed to achieve them. But very few of us think about why we failed. It is not difficult to understand why the human mind fails to accomplish what it intends. The factors can be both external and internal. Therefore, it is important to set realistic and concrete resolutions. It often leads us to break future resolutions without reflecting on ourselves.
Lose weight. Get off social media. Avoid alcohol completely. Blah blah blah snoozefest. These are all good goals. Yet we make the same New Year’s resolutions every year, but never actually follow through on them. So why not try some variety and make a different kind of resolution for 2025. Whatever your New Year’s resolution is, it will be beneficial for you.
The Top 10 Resolutions to Try in 2025
1. Be more mindful of the new normal
Embracing the new normal and developing organizational routines for it is a must for all employees. If you have been waiting to create a more organized workspace or maintain a strict schedule for work, now is the best time to do it. Making the most of every situation is also a skill that can be acquired by adopting healthy habits.
2. Learn a new skill
Nothing is better than learning a new skill. If you’re new to remote work, familiarize yourself with all the remote work tools that make your work life easier. Or maybe join that singing class you’ve always wanted to take. When we decide to step out of our comfort zone to learn something new, it changes our brain patterns. So, always stay open to learning.
3. Be kind to yourself
We tend to beat ourselves up so much that we stop appreciating ourselves and giving ourselves the recognition we deserve. Be kinder to yourself and give yourself the time and energy to think things through if something isn’t going well.
4. Be professional
Respect other people’s time and your own by being more professional in your work. If you’re someone who regularly shows up to virtual meetings a few minutes late, now is the perfect time to break the habit.
5. Eat more whole foods
One of the best ways to improve your overall health is to include whole foods in your diet. Whole foods are unprocessed, unrefined plant foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains. They are rich in important nutrients for our bodies. If you are one of those people who don’t eat vegetables and fruits, make it a healthy habit to eat whole foods at least at one meal.
6. Practicing mindfulness
Mindfulness means being consciously present in the present moment and paying attention to your surroundings from moment to moment. Mindfulness helps you to clarify your thoughts and build resilience and positive energy. To become more mindful, you can meditate regularly, even if just for five minutes, or you can simply sit and observe your thoughts and feelings without judgement.
7. Limit screen time
Digital screens consume the most energy. Before you know it, you end up wasting your precious time surfing the web or watching silly cat videos. Monitor your screen time and make sure you are not wasting your time and energy. You can set a timer or use an application to monitor your screen time. If you currently spend 5-6 hours a day in front of a screen, try to carefully and gradually reduce this time to 2-3 hours.
8. Build your professional network
Networking is essential for personal and professional growth. Build your network and learn how to collaborate to hone your skills and understand your craft. These are the people who run companies and you can gain all sorts of knowledge from them. Build good relationships with people. Activate your social media channels and send requests to the right people.
9. Work on your communication skills
Communication skills are one of the most important skills. Proper communication skills will take you further and also earn you the respect you desire. So, work on those soft skills. Speak passionately, listen actively and maintain an empathetic attitude.
10. Leave your comfort zone
Do something every day that challenges you and opens new perspectives. Working in the best company, meeting normal people, and going to the same restaurant every weekend are all part of your comfort zone. Indulge in activities that can change your beliefs, even if it doesn’t seem easy. Keep challenging yourself because growth stops when you get too comfortable.
