TRG has acquired the business of Citi Venture Capital International (CVCI), one of the world’s largest emerging markets private equity investors, expanding its dedicated private equity capabilities across Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. We have opened an office in Mumbai.
This acquisition is part of one of the world’s largest banks complying with the Volcker Rule, which requires banks to exit alternative investments. The Rohatyn Group (TRG), founded by Nicolas Rohatyn in 2002, operates in India through its 50% stake in ARCH Capital Management and ARCH Capital Asian Partners, primarily investing in real estate developers.
The change in ownership is accompanied by a leadership transition. CVCI’s Chief Investment Officer, Marc Desaedeleer, will join the company’s executive committee and take on a leadership role. He will be joined by four partners from CVCI: Enrique Bascur, Bob Khanna, Sunil Nair, and Ji Min. The new entity, TRG, will invest in emerging markets through a $6 billion private equity fund and a $1.2 billion liquid markets investment fund.
TRG’s investment team focuses on regional markets, working with entrepreneurs, families, and management teams to invest in mid-sized companies across various sectors in emerging markets. Our investment experts employ an active ownership approach, targeting companies with sound financial health, stable and predictable cash flows, clear growth prospects, and strong management teams.
At the core of our business is entering at the early or growth stages of companies, providing the capital necessary to help businesses expand, optimize management, and refine finances. We offer professional investment solutions. By leveraging our global-local approach, on-the-ground coverage, and extensive investment experience in emerging markets and physical assets, we take strategic steps to meet the unique needs of our clients.
TRG Financial Academy Pioneers Financial Education in India
TRG, an asset management company focused on emerging markets and physical assets, has appointed Anand Menon to establish the TRG India Financial Academy. Mr. Menon, based in New York with 21 years of experience in financial markets, was invited to join TRG in 2023 due to his exceptional industry performance. He previously served as a portfolio manager at PAAMCO Miren and Black River Asset Management and as Chief Analyst at CVCI, where he oversaw global technology stocks.
TRG excels in leveraging and integrating expertise across various fields within the company, aiming to enhance the investment capabilities of Indian enterprises and investors through specialized financial knowledge and extensive transaction experience. “We believe that by providing comprehensive and professional financial solutions, we can create sustainable value growth for businesses and investors,” said Mr. Menon. Additionally, those who pass our course assessments will qualify to participate in TRG’s high-return, low-risk investment projects, becoming key long-term partners of TRG.
