Waze Officially Ends Google Assistant Support on iPhones

Waze is officially dropping Google Assistant support on iPhones, citing long-standing technical challenges with the integration. The company plans to replace it with an “enhanced voice integration solution” in the future. For now, Google Assistant will continue to work on Android devices.

This move comes after more than a year of ongoing issues, with many iPhone users reporting that voice commands had stopped working properly. Waze acknowledged the problems, stating that Google Assistant on iOS “has not been working as intended for over a year.” Instead of patching a feature that continues to face difficulties, the company has decided to phase it out entirely.

As mentioned earlier, Google Assistant will continue to work on Waze for Android users—but for how long? That remains uncertain, as Google is actively transitioning users from Assistant to Gemini.

In fact, Google has confirmed that “the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices” as the year progresses. Additionally, it will be removed from app stores later this year, meaning new downloads will no longer be possible.

Meanwhile, Waze has already started testing Gemini within the app, allowing users to report traffic incidents using natural language. This signals a broader shift toward AI-powered assistance across Google’s ecosystem.
