The Writers Guild of America announced Wednesday that it will postpone the announcement of nominations for its annual WGA Awards until next week in light of the wildfires that have caused devastating damage in Los Angeles this week.
The Writers Guild of America announced today that it will announce the nominations on Monday, January 13.
“With Los Angeles under a state of emergency due to multiple wildfires, we will be delaying the announcement of nominees until Monday, January 13, 2025,” the WGA West and WGA East said in a statement.
The news comes as several Hollywood organizations scramble to adjust their schedules in the wake of the Santa Ana fires, which have ravaged Pacific Palisades and Malibu and are now burning near major metropolitan areas such as Santa Monica and Pasadena, as well as the northeastern San Fernando Valley.
Today, the SAG Awards nominations were shortened from a live announcement to a press release, and the Academy Awards extended their voting period and nomination announcement date by two days. Those nominations are now scheduled for January 19th. The Critics’ Choice Awards ceremony, which was scheduled to be held in Santa Monica on Sunday, has been postponed to January 26th.
The 77th annual WGA Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held simultaneously at the Edison Ballroom in New York City and the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on February 15th. Three people have already been announced as recipients of the WGA Eastern Honors Awards: Bill Lawrence, Scott Frank and Kathy McGehee.
