What are the Healthiest Cities in U.S for 2024?

Location matters when it comes to living your best life. Some cities are doing everything they can to promote the well-being of their residents, including through access to nutritious food, adequate recreational facilities, and affordable health care. But elsewhere, staying healthy can be an uphill battle. Until then, WalletHub’s annual list of America’s Healthiest Cities lists San Francisco as the clear winner, given some of the unhealthy issues the city faces. The choice is sure to spark debate.

To determine which cities are prioritizing the health of their residents, WalletHub crunched the numbers for more than 180 of the most populous cities in the United States. They evaluated each city based on 41 key indicators of health status and divided them into four main categories: healthcare, nutrition, fitness, and green space. Researchers looked at everything from the cost of doctor’s visits to the number of people who eat fruits and vegetables to the number of physically active adults. result? A fascinating snapshot of America’s easiest places to live a healthy life.

By using such a diverse set of metrics and weighting them based on their relative importance, WalletHub aimed to create a comprehensive and balanced ranking of America’s Healthiest Cities. However, it’s important to note that no ranking system is perfect, and even in cities that rank highly on these metrics, individual health outcomes can vary widely. Nevertheless, this study provides a useful starting point for understanding which urban environments are most suitable for a healthy lifestyle.

That’s why San Fran is better than the rest. The city is in the throes of a homelessness and drug overdose crisis, and the weighted list is based on the health factors most easily accessible to citizens and the number of people in each city using them. San Francisco ranks 76th for overall health, but first for both healthy eating and green space availability. He also ranked 28th in overall fitness.

Similarly, Honolulu ranked second overall in green space and fourth overall in food, while ranking 27th in fitness and 99th in health care. Seattle seemed a little more balanced than San Francisco or Honolulu, ranking 5th overall in fitness, 10th in food, 11th in green space, and 28th in health care.
