The NBA is scheduled to hold the third season of the Panini Rising Stars 2024, an annual championship for young stars, on February 16, 2023 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. This showcase of young talent will be held as part of the upcoming NBA All-Star 2024.
This tournament will feature his three games featuring four teams consisting of NBA rookies, sophomores, and NBA G League players. These teams were selected after coaches Pau Gasol, Tamika Catchings and Jalen Rose scouted players and a player draft was organized on February 6th. NBA G League players play under coach Detlef Schrempf.
How it works
This mini-tournament consists of 3 games between 4 teams, with players for 3 of the teams being drafted. The final team was made up of NBA G League players. These games are based on desired goals rather than length of time. The game ends when either team reaches the set goal number. Therefore, all games end with a successful basket or free throw, rather than a timeout.
The tournament begins with two semi-finals, Game 1 and Game 2, with a final target score of 40. The winners of both semi-finals will advance to the finals and compete to reach the 25-goal target and win the championship.
The schedule will be announced at a later date, so it has not yet been determined which teams will participate in semifinals 1 and 2.
- Semi-Final 1 – Team A vs. Team B
- Semi-Final 2 – Team C vs. Team D
- Final – Winner of Semi-Final 1 vs. Winner of Semi-Final 2
How are the players selected?
Each Coach received ballots from each NBA team to select players to join the 2024 Panini Rising Stars. The four coaches each selected four frontfield players, four guards and two additional players at both positions in the rookie and sophomore drafts. However, coaches could not select players from their teams.
The final participants of Panini Rising Stars 2024 have been determined based on the points each player received in the vote. Points were awarded based on the placement each player received on each ballot, justifying why she had a freshman over a sophomore.
